I would retire to Mexico in later life. With another family dynamic and a passport, I could imagine that Mexico seems like an attractive option sans the USA with it’s insane cost of living/houses.
My decision may hinge on being able to keep the Subaru from being ransacked/stolen. I have a visceral memory of going to Tijuana in college and being coached about the car theft problem. Advised to keep personally owned cars on the U.S side of the border. “Snakes” notes if you’re driving in with an older pick-up truck, forget about it.
